Well I saw so much absurdity over the course of the last weeks, I couldn't resist. Mind you I'm a DD/CL captain exclusively, so don't think I'm some frustrated big gun. ;)
What not do to: DDs, CLs, too often I see you guys with 1 or 2 planes in your vicinity and no enemy ship around, our BBs and CAs are taking a pounding from nowhere and what do you do? You try to find a ship to shoot...
What to do: As soon as you see an enemy plane, you switch to AA ammo and shoot those eyes down. Shoot'em. Vision IS the game. You keep them blind, they're dead meat.
As long as they have planes above your head, your team's big ships will take a pounding... and die. Then you are next and its game over. Blind them and shoot down all their planes, they're blind and you have more vision range, they're dead meat.
Simple right?
Now here's a little questionnaire for fun:

Question 1: You have an enemy plane above your head, an enemy DD or CL in your vision and you are in a DD or CL with bigger friendly ships nearby. What do you do?
A- You chase a ship.
B- You run away leaving your teammates to die.
C- You spam an uber wall of torps set on prox at the CLs/DDs.
D- You spam an uber wall of torps set on prox in the general direction of the ships outside your vision pounding on your teammates bigger ships.
E- Post on facebook.
F- YOU SHOOT THE PLANE.
Question 2: You are alone and an enemy plane comes into view. What do you do?
A- Go in the direction where the plane came from, there must be enemy ships there.
B- You run away.
C- You spam an uber wall of torps set on prox in the general direction where the plane came from.
D- Tweet about your uber new ship.
E- YOU SHOOT THE PLANE.
Question 3: You are outside of enemy radar range with a bunch of bigger friendly guns around you and you have no targets, but you know the general direction of the enemy ships because your teammates have planes on them. What do you do?
A- Go look for trouble.
B- Browse for cat videos.
C- You spam an uber wall of torps set on prox in the general direction of the enemy.
D- YOU ESCORT THE BIGGER GUNS AND STAY READY TO SHOOT DOWN PLANES OR RUSHING DDs TRYING TO TORP YOUR BIG GUNS.
Question 4: You have shot down every plane that has come into range so of course your team is winning and you don't hear any more enemy planes taking off because they have run out and your teammates are blind. What do you do?
A- Run to the nearest enemy base you saw the enemy running toward, that must be where they are.
B- Clean the dishes.
C- You spam an uber wall of torps set on prox in the general direction of the enemy.
D- YOU APPROACH CAUTIOUSLY WITH GUNS STILL ON AA AND TRY TO SPOT THEM AT THE FARTHEST VISION RANGE SO YOUR TEAMMATES CAN DO THEIR JOB AND IF ONE OF THEM CLOSES IN YOU SWITCH TO HE AND SHOOT THEM.
Question 5: You have shot down every plane that has come into range so of course your team is winning and you don't hear any more enemy planes taking off because they have run out and your teammates have planes over the head of the enemy. What do you do?
A- You take glamour screenshots of your ship in flames while talking in team chat telling those who died and are whining for nothing to get a life.
B- You spam an uber wall of torps set on prox in the general direction of the enemy.
C- You escort the bigger guns.
D- YOU CAN NOW GO LOOK FOR TROUBLE IF ALL THE SUBS ARE DEAD TOO. OTHERWISE YOU STAY BACK, ESCORT THE BIGGER GUNS AND PING THAT SONAR RELENTLESSLY.
